Baghdad suicide attack leaves 29 dead, 38 wounded

Tehran, Aug 28, IRNA -- A suicide attack on a mosque in west of the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad left at least 29 people dead and 38 wounded on Sunday night.
An Iraqi Interior Ministry official was quoted as saying that a suicide bomber after entering Baghdad’s Um al-Qura mosque blew up himself.
According to Iraqi security officials, Sunni parliament lawmaker Khalid al-Fahdawi was among the dead in the 9:40 p.m. attack.
Major Genera Qassim al-Moussawi, a spokesman for Baghdad's military operations command, confirmed the bombing happened inside the Um al-Qura mosque during prayers in the western Baghdad neighborhood of al-Jamiaah. The blue-domed building is the largest Sunni mosque in Baghdad.
Two security officials and medics at two Baghdad hospitals put the casualty toll at 29 dead and 38 wounded. All spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for Sunday's bombing.
