TEHRAN (ISNA) - Iranian ambassador to Iraq Hassan Danaei-Far said on Monday no Iraqi team was sent to Iran for talks on extending timetable of US troops' presence in Iraq.
"No Iraqi delegation was dispatched to Iran by Prime Minister Nouri-al-Maliki for dialogues on extending the timetable of the US forces in Iraq," Danaei-Far told ISNA.
"Iran has taken an entirely clear stance on the issue, we believe that foreign forces should leave Iraq and we believe that no foreign threat has been posed against Iraq. Iraqi policemen and army are able to run their own country."
"From our point of view, there have been less incidents in Iraq since the US troops left Iraq's streets and avenues," the ambassador added.
He predicted that the possible measure (extension of timetable of the US troops' stay in Iraq), would lead to serious reaction from Iraqi citizens.
"Americans are trying to secure their military bases in Iraq and promote their presence in the region. But we believe that regional and Middle Eastern developments will play a role in the issue."
"American forces will have to leave Iraq by the end of 2011 based on Baghdad-Washington security deal, but they have been trying to leave some 22,000 forces in Iraq," the envoy noted.
He then continued over 70 percent of Iraqi leaders are against extending timetable of American troops' presence.
