Iraq's security is security of entire region: Iran's minister
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Manama, Sept 22, IRNA -- Iran’s Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar on Wednesday stressed that the Iraqi security is the security of all regional states, including Iran.
He made the remarks at a press conference held on the sidelines of the 7th ministerial meeting on Iraq.
He expressed hope that the foreign forces occupying Iraq would leave the country soon so that the Iraqi people, themselves, handle their own affairs including their country’s security.
The Iranian minister reiterated that withdrawal of foreign forces from Iraq would lead to establishment of security and stability in that war-torn country.
He urged all Iraqi neighboring states to help establish security and stability in that country.
An independent and powerful Iraq would be established only through joint cooperation among regional states.
He expressed hope that the ongoing meeting on Iraq in the Bahraini capital city would be fruitful.
The 7th ministerial meeting on Iraq attended by interior ministers of Iraq's neighboring countries aims to help ensure security across Iraq.
The proposal for holding a meeting on Iraq was first made by the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2003, and it was then planned to hold such meetings annually.
