Suicide Bomber Kills 6 at Iraqi Funeral

Iraqi police say a suicide bomber entered a funeral tent in western Iraq and detonated explosives Monday, killing at least six mourners and wounding 15 others.

The attack occurred in the town of Haditha in Iraq's Anbar province, which was once an insurgent stronghold. But violence there greatly decreased after local Sunni tribes sided with the U.S. military in 2006 to fight against al-Qaida.

In other news, al-Qaida's second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahiri, released a video message Sunday calling for more violence against Westerners.

Zawahiri dedicated the video to al-Qaida operative Ibn al-Sheikh al-Libi, who reportedly died earlier this year in a Libyan prison.

Libi was taken into U.S. custody in 2001 for allegedly running an al-Qaida training camp in Afghanistan.

The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency sent Libi to Egypt where he was reportedly tortured and gave false information that Iraq, then ruled by Saddam Hussein, had provided training and weapons to al-Qaida.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
