
Dutch Diplomat To Be New UN Envoy to Iraq

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has named Ad Melkert of the Netherlands to be the new U.N. special envoy to Iraq.
U.N. spokeswoman, Michele Montas, made the announcement Tuesday.
Melkert has served as the associate administrator of the United Nations Development Program since 2006. He previously served on the World Bank's Board of Directors and in the Dutch government as a member of parliament and a minister. In 2001, he was elected leader of the Dutch Labour Party.
He is replacing Staffan de Mistura, of Sweden, as the U.N. special envoy to Iraq. De Mistura has been named deputy executive director of the World Food Program.
