Suicide attack on police academy kills 28 young Iraqis
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Baghdad, March 8, IRNA -- At least 28 people were killed in a suicide attack on a police recruitment centre in Baghdad on Sunday.
Another 57 people are said to have been wounded in the attack at the back entrance of the main police academy in the capital.
The bomber was apparently wearing an explosive vest and seen riding a motorbike packed with explosives, police said.
Police recruits have been target for the terrorists in the past.
IRNA reporter in Baghdad said that in December, 15 people were killed and 45 wounded outside the same police academy.
"We know recruits are a favourite target for the terrorists. We tell them to come in small groups instead of big groups, but they don't pay attention," an academy official said.
"This is the result: a suicide bomber managed to infiltrate and explode himself," he said.
On Thursday, 12 people were killed in a bomb at a market in the south of the country.
