Intelligence and Military Security School graduates 227
TAJI — The Intelligence and Military Security School graduated 227 Iraqi intelligence specialists Dec. 23, the same day the Iraqi Ministry of Defense Directorate General for Intelligence and Security dedicated its Center for Excellence.
The graduation ceremony followed a ribbon cutting event to open two new buildings at the school. Guests for the ceremonies included senior Iraqi Ministry of Defense and Coalition officials.
Graduates at the ceremony completed a three-week course in Basic Military Intelligence and one of five, 5-week intermediate specialty courses. These included Analysis, Reconnaissance and Surveillance, Human Intelligence, Signals Intelligence and Counterintelligence. Eight senior intelligence officers were also present, having completed a senior intelligence manager’s seminar.
Iraqi Staff Lt. Gen. Hussain Jasim Dohi Alabadi, Deputy Chief of Staff for Training, Joint Headquarters, served as the keynote speaker. He praised the ongoing efforts at IMSS, stressed the importance of intelligence to support the ISF, and emphasized the graduates’ “responsibility to help Iraqi Security Forces bring security and stability to Iraq.”
Mr. Steve Bond, the director of Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq’s Intelligence Transition Team, also addressed the graduates. Referring to the newly-opened classrooms and facilities, he told the graduates, “The next time you conduct a graduation ceremony in this hall, there will be over 400 graduates - almost twice the amount of graduates today. As the ISF increases the number of trained professionals, so does its capabilities and Iraq becomes better prepared for the future.”
IMSS trains intelligence professionals from all the ISF intelligence organizations. The school is working with the ITT to establish enduring relationships with U.S. intelligence training centers. In 2009, there are plans to expand the basic and advanced intelligence courses. Expanding the student capacity is necessary to meet the ever-increasing demand for intelligence professionals in the ISF.
