
Female Suicide Bombers Kill 50 in Baghdad, Northern Iraq

Iraqi authorities say suicide bombers attacked a Shi'ite pilgrimage in Baghdad and a Kurdish rally in northern Iraq Monday, killing 50 people and wounding nearly 300 others.
Police say three female suicide bombers blew themselves up during the pilgrimage in Baghdad killing at least 28 people, including children, and wounding more than 90 others.
The blasts occurred in quick succession in the Karrada district, as thousands of Shi'ite worshippers were traveling to the Kadhimiya shrine in the northern section of the capital.
In northern Iraq, Kirkuk Governor Abdul Rahman Mustafa tells VOA Kurdish Service an explosion Mondday in the oil-rich city killed at least 22 people attending a demonstration against Iraq's draft provincial elections law. He says 195 other people were wounded in the blast.
On Sunday, the U.S. military said Iraqi and coalition troops killed four al-Qaida militants and captured 58 others in a battle in northwestern Iraq.
The military said Sunday's fighting in the province of Ninewah also killed four Iraqi soldiers. Six other Iraqi troops and a coalition soldier were wounded.
