Jalili: Iraqi people should rebuild their country

Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili said on Sunday that the Iraqi nation should support a powerful democratic government and the Iraqi government with reliance on people should overcome all internal and foreign pressures.

Jalili made the remark in a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

At the meeting, Jalili voiced Iran's readiness to help bolster Iraq's security.

Lauding the efforts being made by the Iraqi government for restoration of security, stability and peace to Iraq, he said security in Iraq would help restore security to the region, adding that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to employ all its experiences to help restore peace and stability to Iraq.

All should help restore peace, stability and a lasting security to Iraq, Jalili underlined.

The Iraqi government can resolve domestic and foreign problems if it wins support of its nation, he said.

The Iraqi premier, for his part, thanked Iran for its humanitarian assistance to his country and its efforts to restore security to the country.

The Iraqi government is determined to support all groups which support rule of law in the country, he said.

A lasting security in Iraq will prepare grounds for withdrawal of alien forces from that country and for put an end to the country's occupation, he said.

Iraq's security is vital to its neighbors, he said and called for utilization of Iran's experiences in security affairs.

Referring to Iran-Iraq commonalties, he said the two countries have had extensive cooperation so far.

Expansion of economic and industrial cooperation between Iran and Iraq would bring more security to Iraq, he said.

Maliki invited the Iranian private sector to play a much active role in implementing Iraq's development programs and promised that his country would prepare the grounds for Iran's active presence in the country's reconstruction era.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides called for continued exchange of visits between the two sides' security officials to help restore security to Iraq.
