Iran receives US official note to hold talks on Iraq: Hosseini

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, April 7, IRNA
Iran has received an official note from the US officials to hold the fourth round of talks on Iraq, Foreign Ministry spokesman, Mohammad-Ali Hosseini, said on Monday.

"We are studying the US officials repeated request which was sent to us as an official note to hold new round of talks on Iraq," Hosseini told reporters at his weekly press conference.

The fourth round of talks between Iranian and US officials on Iraq's security situation was expected to be held on March 6, but was cancelled in last minute.

An Iranian delegation arrived in Baghdad on March 5 for the talks but the US side announced it was not well-prepared.

The Iraqi government is always represented in the talks.

Iran gives preference to hold talks with the US on Iraq security, because of its interest in stability of the neighboring state.

The Iranian and US officials have so far held three rounds of talks on Iraq situation on May 28, July 24 and August 6, 2007 respectively.
