Ayat. Jannati: US presence in Iraq brings nothing but misery

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Iran-Prayers-Jannati
Substitute Friday Prayers Leader of Tehran Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said here Friday that the US presence in Iraq has had nothing but misery and misfortune.

"The US' five-year military presence in Iraq has had nothing special for people of the country and even Americans but misery and amage. Iraq is entangled with many problems now," said Ayatollah Jannati in his second sermon to large groups of Tehrani worshipers at Tehran University campus.

He recommended Iraqi popular armed forces to hold talks with Iraqi popular government and advised the government too to listen to the forces' views and ultimately solve problems in a way that would benefit all.

"I advise the popular armed forces, that are present in Basra, to hold talks with Iraqi popular government and pass their opinion to the government through talks. Additionally, I recommend the Iraqi government to heed the forces' views and solve problems eventually in a way that would be to the interest of all," he said.

Jannati questioned Muslim world, especially the Organization of the Islamic Conference, for keeping silent against enormous brutality and oppression in Iraq.

"It is not clear why Muslim states, especially the OIC, do not show any reaction against so much injustice and oppression in Iraq, while such measures could be easily prevented through unity and solidarity," he said.

Somewhere in his sermon, Ayatollah Jannati hailed Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei for his "well-calculated and logical" move in designation of the present Iranian calendar year as the year of innovation and flourishment.

"Innovation is a dynamic and constant move and one can not stop it under any condition. So, the movement should continue with a well-calculated, prudent, speedy, logical and wise manner so as to compensate the country's scientific and industrial backwardness worldwide," he noted.

He also hailed strong public presence in the "healthy" 8th Majlis elections on March 14.
