President says his visit thwarted enemies plots to isolate Iraq

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Monday that his Iraq visit thwarted plots of enemies to isolate the Iraqi nation and government.

"Many wanted to isolate the Iraqi government and nation. In this visit their wish was neutralized," said President Ahmadinejad at a press conference when asked why his visit has received wide media coverage worldwide.

"Moreover, there were much propaganda that the two (Iranian and Iraqi nations) were not pleased with each other. Such claim proved to be unfounded. These are two from among several reasons which put the visit atop world media reports," he added.

On Iranian and Iraqi border issues, Ahmadinejad said, "We have signed agreement on border issues and based on the deal we have formed joint committees, which are working on the issues." The President said, "The Iraqi nation is a fact and reality. We have been living beside each other for hundreds of years and will continue to live with each other in the future too. In our opinion the exchange of visits should be publicized principally."

About the US accusations that Iran interferes in Iraq's internal affairs, Ahmadinejad said the American officials speak too much.

"The claims are not much important because they usually make claims based on false information. One cannot count much on their claims. We can however offer them a friendly recommendation: In our opinion, accusing others will not solve the US problems in the region.

Solutions to problems should be sought elsewhere," he added.

On hues and cries about oil wells on border regions, Ahmadinejad said, "Iraqi officials have ruled out the claims." He stressed that Iran-Iraq relations are too close.

To a question about Iran's willingness to contribute to Iraq's reconstruction projects, he said, "As I said, a developed Iraq will be in favor of all regional nations and Iran will do all it can in that connection."

"We believe other regional governments too should come on the scene. We hope that Iraqi statesmen's decision for reconstruction of Iraq will result in prosperity of the Iraqi people," he said.
