Ahmadinejad: Iran, Iraq to stand by each other

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here Sunday that Iran and Iraq will stand by each other under any circumstances.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki here on Sunday, Ahmadinejad said that his visit to Iraq visit and talks with Iraqi officials has opened a new chapter in bilateral ties.

"We are confident that bilateral relations will reach the highest level in all domains," said Ahmadinejad.

He said both sides should use their abundant financial and spiritual facilities to expand mutual cooperation and be complementary to each other.

The president added that in their 'good and constructive' meeting in Baghdad, he and Iraqi prime minister agreed that Baghdad and Tehran share common stances.

The Iranian chief executive said he and the Iraqi prime minister had discussed variety of subjects relating to oil, energy, industry, trade, and security as well as regional issues.

"In all the areas the sides share common stances and are determined to use their capacity to bolster two-way ties," noted Ahmadinejad.

Describing mutual ties as 'exceptional and excellent', Ahmadinejad said bilateral ties will in the course of time serve the interests of both Iranian and Iraqi nations.

"We will expand our cooperation in line with interests of both Iranian and Iraqi nations and closely watch regional situation," he added.
