Current global developments have roots in the Second World War and its consequences, he said adding that but the world has changed and the people have learned how to resist the violation of their rights.

Given the current development in Palestine, the Iranian president criticized the performance of the UN in the war of the summer of 2006 which was triggered by the Zionist regime against the Lebanese people and said "If the UN had adopted a rational approach and had carried out its duties, we would not be witnessing the crimes and atrocities of the Zionists in Gaza strip.

"For over 60 years the Palestinians have been living under a very pitiable situation and some introduce the rightful owners of the land as terrorists and the occupiers as peace-seekers," Ahmadinejad said.

On Iraq, the Iranian president said the country has a rich culture with ancient civilization and its pious women and men spare no effort to defend their national identity, independence and their
civilization.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari was also present in the meeting.

The Iranian president arrived in the Iraqi capital on Sunday for a landmark visit to the country by an Iranian president after the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran.

President Ahmadinejad is accompanied by a number of cabinet ministers including Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki as well as ministers of energy, economy and transport and a group of Majlis deputies.
