Iraq's 1st vice president: Iran always assist Iraq at hard times

Iraqi First Vice President Adel Abdul al-Mahdi said on Wednesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran did not leave the Iraqi nation alone during the toughest situation and hardship.
Speaking to reporters after his meeting with the Iranian foreign minister, he said Iran has always backed Iraq's elected government and its nation.
He lauded the role of Iran in bringing closer the Iraqi political parties and said the country has played a positive role in creating mutual understanding and collective cooperation between these groups.
Referring to geographical and deeply-rooted ties between Iran and Iraq, he called for expansion of mutual relations which would leave positive impacts on regional developments.
Supporting expansion of ties between Iran and Iraq, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said there are huge untapped potentials in both countries which should be explored.
Restoration of stability and security to Iraq is on top of Iran's agenda, Mottaki said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Iranian foreign minister conferred with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on issues of mutual interests as well as regional developments.
Mottaki is to confer with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani on regional developments.
Iran's foreign minister heading a delegation arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday and was officially welcomed by his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari.
