Russia condemns terrorist attack on Baghdad hotel - ministry
26/06/2007 15:32 MOSCOW, June 26 (RIA Novosti) - Russia resolutely condemns the June 25 terrorist attack on a Baghdad hotel and urges the leaders of Iraqi political forces to consolidate their efforts in the fight against terrorism, a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Minister said Tuesday.
On Monday, a suicide bomber slipped into the lobby of the crowded Mansour Hotel in Baghdad and set off an explosive killing at least 12 and wounding dozens. Among those killed were Iraqi tribal leaders who had gathered in the country's capital for talks on a national accord agreement.
"Against the backdrop of daily reports of terrorist attacks in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities, the explosion at the Mansour Hotel stands out because this time the victims of the terrorist attack were the leaders of the Sunni and Shiite communities from Anbar, one of the most troubled provinces in Iraq, who came to Baghdad to agree on a way of cooperating to bring life back to normal in that part of the country," Mikhail Kamynin said.
He said that "Russia resolutely condemns all forms and methods of terrorism, no matter how its inspirers and perpetrators justify their crimes," adding that "forces which do not have Iraq's true interests at heart, despite their ethnic or religious affiliation, undoubtedly stand behind this crime."
