Iran, US to hold talks on Iraq: spokesman

Iran has agreed to hold talks with the US on Iraq, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said here Sunday.
Hosseini was speaking to domestic and foreign reporters at his weekly press conference.
"Following consultations between Iranian and Iraqi officials, Tehran has agreed to hold negotiations with Washington to relieve pains and suffering of the Iraqi people, support and strengthen the government of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and stabilize security and peace in that country," he reiterated.
"Iran has formally taken the issue (negotiation) into consideration," he said adding that talks will be held in Iraq.
Hosseini said, "Date of the meeting and level of the negotiating team will be determined by end of the current week."
