Iran ready to help restore stability to Iraq: Gov't spokesman

Government Spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham said on Wednesday that Tehran is ready to cooperate with the Iraqi government restore security to the war-torn country.

Elham made the remarks in his weekly press briefing, adding, "Every decision on Iraq will be fruitful provided that the Iraqi government plays a pivotal role.

"With such an outlook, Tehran is ready for cooperation in stabilizing security in Iraq and for reconstruction of the country," strengthening the Baghdad government and preparing grounds for withdrawal of occupiers," he said.

Asked about Iran's stance on holding talks with the US on Iraq, he replied, "What has been raised merely concerns talks on Iraq issues based on transparent diplomatic regulations."

Pointing to the fact that a legitimate and powerful government is the only way to resolve the current problems of Iraq, he noted that the Islamic Republic has repeatedly declared that the Arab country has a legitimate and legal government, and the only option to settle the current crisis is to enhance it.
