Iran backs ratification of Baghdad int'l conference: FM

Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said here Tuesday night that Tehran supports ratification of the international conference held in Baghdad last month.
Mottaki was speaking to reporters after he held talks with his Syrian counterpart Walid al-Moualem.
He termed as "critical" the ongoing situation in Iraq and expressed hope Iraqi neighboring states would continue with helping Iraq restore stability and tranquility.
Pointing to his meeting with al-Moualem, the Iranian minister said, "We discussed bilateral relations and regional issues particularly developments in Iraq, Palestine and Lebanon.
"We decided to continue our consultations."
He expressed his felicitations to Syrian nation and government on occasion of Syria's Independence Day (April 17).
Mottaki arrived in Damascus Tuesday night for a short visit after Turkey. He was welcomed at the airport by Syrian Foreign Minister al-Moualem.
