US anti-Iran documents on Iraq forged - Zarif

Iran's UN Ambassador Javad Zarif said here Wednesday that US President George W. Bush has resorted to a new adventurist policy of "accusing" aimed at concealing US mistakes in Iraq.

Mohammad-Javad Zarif made the comment in an interview with Channel 13 anchor man, Charlie Rose, for his widely watched political show, who had asked whether Iran is involved in any kind of interference in Iraq's internal affairs.

Zarif replied, "None at all."

Rose said, "You mean absolutely none?"

The Iranian envoy said, "Absolutely none, since Tehran's relation with Iraq Government is excellent, and I believe the Americans are trying to find an scapegoat in Iraq by forging documents behind closed doors in Washington."

Rose further emphasized how is it possible to make a clear distinction between the Iranian government and those who make and send those bombs to Iraq.

Zarif said, "I did not say anything about the Iranian Government, but all the same, Iran is not pursuing such a policy, since it is absolutely against Tehran's interests."

Rose: And does the Government seriously ask the entire Iranians not to do such things?

Zarif: Weakening Iraq Government is against our national interests. The Iraqi officials have repeatedly rejected such rumors, but the Americans in Iraq arrest Iranian diplomats and try to make them confess. This is a sick process leading to no tangible results there.

Rose: Do you think they do so to prepare the ground for entering a new war against Iran?

Zarif: I am not an insider for Washington political circles.

Rose: I mean what is your own judgment? Does Tehran think the US is preparing for an attack against Iran?

Zarif: I do not think there is a harmony among US politicians in that respect, just as the interpretations on US moves in Iran. There are various viewpoints in Washington, and there are definitely people that favor greater adventurist policies beyond Iraq. Unfortunately we even hear some high ranking US officials saying that Iraq war has been a success.

Rose: Are you concerned lest US would create a critical situation and to take advantage of it for launching an attack against Iran? Zarif: certain people in Washington think that way, but we hope rationalism would prevail in the long run, such moves would come to an end, and the White House would realize that resorting to force would lead to no tangible results.

It has not worked in Iraq, it will not work elsewhere, drowning the US, unfortunately deeper drowned in a self-created quagmire.

Rose: Have we further approached the US-Iran confrontation moment t this time, and in other words, are all factors working against beginning of Tehran-Washington talks, that would serve both countries interests, as well as Middle East interests?

Zarif: I believe there is no political will for problem saving in Washington, since if there were, there would be ways out of crisis, but if you are after further fomenting the crisis, crisis is what you will end up with at the end.

I do not see any will, or efforts in Washington aimed at problem solving.

Rose: They say there is no such will in Tehran.

Zarif: If they claim so, they also need to prove it. That is contrary with Iran's general approach in our peaceful nuclear program, in Iraq, and in other cases. Iran has always proved in practice its readiness and will for seeking peaceful solutions, whereas the US has always been after finding new pretexts for creating new crises.
