Bombing of Iraq's holy shrines was supported by occupiers: president

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Feb 13, IRNA
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here Tuesday that the bombing of the holy shrines of Shi'ite Imams Ali al-Naqi (AS) and Hassan al-Askariya (AS) in the Iraqi city of Samarra last year was done with support of the occupying forces.

Ahmadinejad's remarks came as he addressed Majlis in defense of his nominee for the post of minister of justice, Gholam-Hossein Elham, in Tuesday morning's open session of Majlis.

Condoling the world Shi'ites on the anniversary of the bombing of the shrines of the Shi'ite Imams in Iraq, he said the destruction of the al-Aqsa Mosque and the bombing of the holy shrines were both masterminded by the same agents.

All religions respect their holy shrines but global arrogant countries resort to such inhuman and criminal acts in order to survive, the president added.

The occupiers are trying to guarantee their rule over nations through occupation and destruction of religious and holy places, he said, stressing such moves are doomed to fail.

Praising the massive turn-out in the Feb 11 (Bahman 22) rallies, the president said that the people disappointed the enemies with such massive display of support which also showed the people's solidarity with their government.

The huge turn-out in the rallies once again showed that the Iranian people, the youth in particular, fully support their government's peaceful nuclear energy policies and neutralized all conspiracies of the enemies, President Ahmadinejad said.
