FM: Iran supports political process in Iraq
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Feb 12, IRNA
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here Monday said that Iran will fully support Iraq's political process and urged that Iraqi people should determine their own destiny.
Speaking to al-Alam News Network, he said that Iran attempts to establish the most favorable relations with other countries, in particular with Iraq.
"Meanwhile, Iran will not allow any country to disrupt its favorable ties with other states," he added.
Mottaki noted that Iran does not intend to settle scores with other countries, neither in Iraq nor in any country.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the minister said that many messages on the US call for talks with Iran about Iraq have been received, adding that however, no official message has so far been submitted by Iraq and that in case such a message is conveyed, Iran will examine it.
"Given Iran's role in solving the issue of Iraq and not having to do anything with the problems facing the country, Iran accepted the call to support the Iraqi government and nation.
"But right after Iran declared its agreement with such talks, the US launched its psychological warfare against Iran as usual and brought up issues other than those related to Iraq. Then the US subversive intentions and the fact that it does not seriously mean to discuss Iraq with Iran were exposed," he added.
