FM: US mismanagement accounts for insecurity in Iraq
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Feb 12, IRNA
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said that insecurity in Iraq has to do with the US mismanagement and underlined that the failure of its policies on Iraq and on the domestic scene have led the US to attempt to divert attention from its recent failures by launching false propaganda against Iran.
The statement was made in an interview with al-Alam News Network on Monday.
He noted that the kidnapping of Iranian diplomats in Iraq by US troops aimed to undermine Nouri al-Maliki's government and disrupt Iran-Iraq ties.
On Iran's attempts to release the kidnapped Iranian diplomats, the minister said that a number of high-ranking Iraqi officials, including President Jalal Talabani, Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, head of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) Abdul Aziz al-Hakim and former prime minister, Ibrahim Jafari, have been called on to take serious measures to release them.
About promotion of security in Iraq, he said that its neighboring states have the potential to establish stability in Iraq and solve its security problems.
"If Iraqis are charged with their country's security, its government will manage to establish security and peace and administer the country's security matters," he noted.
Concerning the possibility of Iran-US confrontation or their talks, the minister said that the US is not in position to cause another crisis in the Middle East and that President George W. Bush is also going through a hard time.
Mottaki said that the US will not dare to take any incorrect, unwise, miscalculated and risky measure.
Turning to the two warning messages sent to Washington in the past days, he said that the first one was that of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei saying that if the US attacks Iran, it will target its interests in the entire region and world.
He pointed to participation of tens of millions of ralliers on the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution as the second warning message to the US.
