Larijani unveils US role in kidnaping of Iranian diplomat in Iraq

Tehran, Feb 7, IRNA
Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani said here Wednesday that Iran believes that the US was involved in the recent kidnapping of Iranian diplomat.
Larijani made the remark at a joint press briefing with Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee after their meeting.
The statement was made in response to a question on whether there are any documents to prove that either American troops or terrorist groups were involved in kidnapping of the second secretary of Iranian embassy in Baghdad.
He noted that there is no evidence proving that terrorist groups were responsible for it.
The SNSC secretary said that the Foreign Ministry has made some attempts in this regard, which have been fruitful to some extent.
Larijani said that the US is seeking adventures in Iraq, which is against its own interests.
"If supporting Nouri al-Maliki's government and promotion of security in Iraq is a key issue to the US, measures such as kidnapping Iranian diplomats simply undermine the Iraqi government," he added.
He announced that Iran's strong protest to the governments of Switzerland -- acting as the US Interest Section in Iran -- and Iraq on the issue is being pursued by Iran through various channels.
