Statement by United States Ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad on Today’s Bombings
Today’s suicide bombings were attacks not just on the Iraqi people but also attacks against the Iraqi people’s desire to build a safe, secure, and unified Iraq. These murderers targeted innocent Iraqi civilians from all walks of life.
The horrific attacks that took place today are an example of what the forces of evil will do to intimidate the Iraqi people. The United States and members of the international community join with the people of Iraq in condemning these cowardly acts of terror.
To those who commit these heinous crimes we send this message: You will be relentlessly hunted until you are apprehended and brought to justice. Have no doubt, you will pay for your role in these crimes.
On behalf of the government and people of the United States, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of those murdered and to the innocents injured.
