Mottaki blasts US, UK policies in Iraq

Minister of Foreign Affairs Manouchehr Mottaki on Wednesday said that the secretive US and UK policies in Iraq to foment differences among sects are clearly visible.
According to the Foreign Ministry's Press and Information Department, Mottaki, who is in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa, made the remarks at a news conference on the sidelines of the 8th African Union Conference.
"They have targeted unity among Muslim nations, but we will follow Imam Khomeini's policy: Those who follow up differences between Shiite and Sunni people they are neither Shiites nor Sunnis," he added.
"To avoid division among Muslim nations, four elements should be observed," he said, adding, "The role of governments, religious scholars, Islamic thinkers, and mass media which are considered the four pillars for the unity of Muslims.
"Wherever the US took steps to solve the problems, it only increased the difficulties," he said, citing, "We witnessed that US intervention in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine only endangered their domestic and international status."
Pointing to the conference of foreign ministers of Iraq's neighboring countries in Baghdad, he noted that the presence of all neighboring countries of Iraq to establish security and stability will be constructive and beneficial.
