Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said here Sunday that recent remarks made by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani on Iran's readiness to hold talks with US over Iraq indicated Iranian commitment to tranquility in the region.

Hosseini made the statement at his weekly press conference while he was asked to comment on Talabani's remarks on Iran's readiness to hold talks with the US over Iraq security.

"Iran has a clear stance on the issue (of holding talks with the US). It will consider Washington's formal request for negotiations on regional issues," he said.

Asked about Iran's nuclear case, he said "What is raised as the country's stance on nuclear case originated from a consensus between officials of the Supreme National Security Council.

"No change has occurred in Iran's nuclear stance. The issue of suspension of enrichment is not acceptable because it has no legal and rational basis."
