Tehran, Jan 14, IRNA
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said on Sunday that the US attack on Iran's consulate general in the northern Iraqi city of Arbil was aimed at imposing pressure on Tehran to implement Washington's new strategy.
Hosseini made the statement while speaking to domestic and foreign reporters at his weekly press briefing.
"The US also intends to harm friendly and brotherly ties between Iran and Iraq," he said.
He added that the US would not achieve its goals because "the Iranian and Iraqi nations enjoy deep-rooted bonds".
"Such US measures are aimed at putting the blame on a third party. The US officials do not intend to accept their failure in Iraq," the spokesman stated.
He stressed that Iran would pursue the case of US attack on Iran's consulate general via the United Nations.
Asked whether the recent tour by the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to the Middle East was aimed at formation of a pole against Iran, Hosseini said, "Rice should know that no formation will take place against Iran in the region.
"Regional states will not sacrifice their good ties with Iran for the incorrect and warmongering policies of the US."
In response to a question on suspension of enrichment activities at Natanz nuclear site, he said, "Peaceful nuclear activities continue at Natanz."
