MP: More US troops will not bring peace to Iraq

Deployment of more troops in Iraq by the US would bring no peace to the war-torn country, Tehran MP Soheila Jelodarzadeh said Sunday.

Experiences of the past three years have shown warmongering and boosting the military would not serve the interests of human communities at any corner of the world, she told IRNA while commenting on the recent remarks of US President George Bush over the new US strategy in Iraq.

"Bush has claimed that bringing democracy to Iraq was the reason behind US military expedition to that country while it is clear to everyone now that the move resulted in nothing but selling more US arms and promotion of militarism both inside the United States and the whole world," she added.

Jelodarzadeh stressed that peace and stability in any country can only be established by its own people.

"It is now clear that dictatorship has failed to solve problems of any nation both at domestic and international levels," she said.

She stressed all human communities have come to the conclusion that it is the negotiations and not warmongering that would solve problems.

Reiterating that Tehran opposes warmongering policies at any corner of the world, the MP said waging wars in any part of the globe would only inflict heavy damage on those parts and it would take a long time, probably centuries, to make up for the damage.
