Iraqi president: Iran will help Iraq restore security

Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said here Thursday that the Islamic Republic of Iran has extended assistance to Iraq in the wake of collapse of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and will do so in restoring security in Iraq.

Speaking to reporters prior to his departure from Tehran, he said that during discussions with Iranian officials, the two sides reached good results and described the visit as one hundred percent successful.

Thanking the Iranian officials for their warm hospitality extended to Iraqi delegation, he said the Iraqi nation will benefit from fruits of such visit in the near future.

Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and his entourage left Tehran for home on Thursday.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad bade official farewell to Iraqi President Jalal Talabani at the end of his three-day visit to Tehran on Wednesday.

The Iraqi delegation was seen off by Minister of Energy Parviz Fattah at the airport.

This was the fourth visit of President Talabani since he took office as Iraqi chief executive in democratic election after ouster from power of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

Talabani arrived in Tehran on Monday evening and was welcomed at the Mehrabad Airport by Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and Energy Minister Parviz Fattah.

His entourage included Iraqi foreign minister, oil, education, industry, science and technology ministers as well as two members of Iraqi parliament.

During his stay, President Talabani attended the late Imam Khomeini mausoleum and paid his respect to the late founder of Islamic Republic.

He was received by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and conferred with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Shahroudi and Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki.

The visit led to signature of the two memoranda of understanding on cooperation in the fields of industry and education between the two countries.
