Spokesman: Saddam's death sentence, not to end Iran's complaint

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Nov 12, IRNA
Iran-Hosseini-Saddam
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said on Sunday that Saddam Hussein's death sentence does not mean an end to the investigation of Iran's complaints.

He made the remark, while speaking to domestic and foreign reporters at this week's press conference, in response to a question about the ruling issued on Saddam and failure to investigate Iran's complaint.

"We definitely expect our complaint to be investigated thoroughly, given that the file just investigated covered only part of the crimes committed by Saddam Hussein. His bigger files should certainly be investigated," he added.

Turning to actions taken by the Foreign Ministry to this end, he said that officials in charge have fulfilled their duty and that the prosecutor general has compiled a complaint in this regard.

"The complaint was submitted to Iraqi officials by Iran's Foreign Ministry, which was passed on to an authorized court. It is now being pursued through legal channels," he added.

The speaker said that Google's mistake in introducing Tabriz as part of Azerbaijan Republic was a mischievous act for sowing the seed of discord among ethnic groups.

He dismissed the move, adding that Iran has called for its correction and that if they fail to respond to the call the issue will be pursued through legal channels.

About an Iranian citizen arrested in Britain, Hosseini said, "He was released on bail. The issue is being investigated by British officials and Iran is taking necessary steps."
He referred to fingerprinting of Iranians at the British Embassy in Tehran and said that this is a normal procedure for issuing visa and is not restricted to Iranian citizens and that the issue is however being pursued more closely.

In response to a question about building artificial islands on the Persian Gulf coast by the UAE, he said that the negative impact of such moves on the environment is being assessed by Iran's Foreign Ministry and Department of Environment as well as the Regional Environmental Organization.

"Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission is also oversees the process and the outcome will be announced," he concluded.
