Death sentence, minimum penalty for Iraqi dictator: Hosseini

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said here Sunday death sentence is the minimum penalty for the Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

Addressing domestic and foreign reporters at his weekly press briefing, he referred to the death sentence verdict for Saddam by the court this morning adding that the verdict does not mean Saddam's other crimes, particularly those committed during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war against Iran, should be overlooked.

As to the process of Iran's nuclear case, Hosseini advised the European states to return to negotiations table unconditionally.

Referring to the US interference in Iran-EU talks, he urged Washington to give up such acts and instead encourage European leaders to move toward the correct path.

"We consider the UN Security Council path as inappropriate," he said adding that Tehran believes such a route will make the issue more complicated.

The process to reach mutual understanding will be delayed through the UN Security Council, Hosseini reiterated.

Return to negotiations and taking Iran's nuclear dossier out of the Security Council will be the only solutions to the issue, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman noted.
