Iran wants a secure, developed Iraq in region: minister

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Sept 13, IRNA
Iran-Iraq-Migration
Interior Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi here on Tuesday evening stressed that Iran wants "a secure and developed Iraq" within its neighborhood.

At a meeting with Iraqi Minister of Migration and Displaced Persons Abd al-Samad Sultan, he said insecurity in Iraq has been spooked and supported by certain powers.

Rejecting Washington's claims that US forces in Iraq are helping to secure the country and remove brutality, he said foreign powers are trying to create various scenarios in Iraq and redraw the map of the entire region as well.

On Tehran-Baghdad relations, the Iranian minister called for enhancement of bilateral cooperation particularly in the exchange of commodities and mutual visits by pilgrims of either country.

He underlined the importance of establishing security in Iraq and, towards this end, to dismantle terrorist groups known to be operating in that war-torn country.

For his part, the Iraqi minister lauded Iran's assistance to Iraqi migrants over the past two decades, and expressed hope problems in their home state would be settled so these migrants can return.
