Supreme Leader: Prosperity of Iraqi nation equal to that of Iranian, regional people

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki here Wednesday said that the prosperity and progress of the Iraqi nation are equal to those of Iranian and regional people.
Ayatollah Khamenei underlined that Iran practically considers itself bound to protect Iraq's government and nation.
The Supreme Leader expressed satisfaction with formation of an independent and stable government in Iraq and hoped to witness the day that the Iraqi nation will have the position it deserves.
"Once the foreign troops withdraw from Iraq, the country's material and spiritual wealth will be at the service of the nation," added Ayatollah Khamenei.
Regretting the daily pains and sufferings of the Iraqi people, the Supreme Leader said that they are partially rooted in the performance of the Iraq's former despotic regime and partially related to the presence of foreign troops.
"Once the foreign forces leave Iraq, many of its problems will be solved," said Ayatollah Khamenei, hoping that this will be materialized soon.
For his part, the Iraqi prime minister expressed satisfaction with his visit to Iran and appreciated its supportive approach to Iraq's government and people.
Turning to his visit to Iran as successful, al-Maleki underlined that his country's foreign policy gives special priority to expansion of relations with friendly and neighboring countries.
Briefing the Supreme Leader on Iraq's current situation and the government's measures to solve the current problems, including attempts to establish unity and integration among various tribes and religions, he said that insecurity is the most important difficulty facing Iraq.
He added that Baathists and Takritis are mainly responsible for the insecurity in Iraq.
The Iraqi prime minister hoped that once the mutually reached agreements are implemented, mutual relations will further expand.
The meeting was also attended by 1st Vice President Parviz Davoudi.
