• UN Deputy Secretary-General to attend high-level weekend meeting on Iraq UN News Centre 08 Sep 2006 -- Deputy United Nations Secretary-General Mark Malloch Brown will join other international officials on Sunday to discuss the International Compact with Iraq, a new partnership with the global community that was launched in July and aims to pursue political, economic and social development over the next five years in the strife-torn country.

• Security Growing in Northern Iraq as Iraqi Forces Come of Age Washington File 08 Sep 2006 -- In 2006, the number of coalition forces active in northern Iraq has been cut in half, demonstrating the success of Iraqi security forces in restoring security and government services to the region, says the commander of the coalition's Multi-National Division - North.
• Iraqis Taking Responsibility for Security in North AFPS 08 Sep 2006 -- Continual training with coalition forces has increased the capabilities of the Iraqi army and police in northern Iraq and allowed the local forces to take responsibility for more territory and work toward the future of the country, the U.S. commander in the area said today.
