Asefi: Neighboring states quite sensitive to Iraq's problems

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi here Saturday said that the countries neighboring Iraq are specially sensitive to the problems facing the country.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the inaugural ceremony of the 9th meeting of foreign ministers of Iraq's neighboring states plus Egypt and Bahrain, he said that Iran seeks the formation of a strong and national government in Iraq.
He added that Iran will cooperate with the countries neighboring Iraq and its new government to this end.
Asefi said that the final statement of the meeting is being drawn up by Iran, adding that it is being examined by special committees.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the draft statement welcomes formation of a new government in Iraq, urges the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country, underlines promotion of security and expansion of its relations with the neighboring states.
The ongoing developments in Iraq, particularly the insecurity in his country and its connection with the neighboring states, and problems of Islamic states will be high on the agenda of the meeting.
The foreign ministers of Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Egypt are attending the event.
Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa and United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan's special representative for Iraq, Ashraf Qazi are also participating in the meeting.
The two-day foreign ministers meetings (July 8-9) of the countries neighboring Iraq is being held at the Foreign Ministry building.
