FM: Promotion of Tehran-Baghdad ties boosts regional security

Visiting Foreign Minister of Iran Manouchehr Mottaki said here Friday that Iran-Iraq friendship and promotion of their relations would lead to regional security and stability.
Speaking to reporters upon arrival in Baghdad, the minister said he is in Iraq to felicitate the country's officials for the successful formation of a new government which took office on May 20.
Mottaki who is in Baghdad at the head of a high-ranking political delegation said that he visits the country to stress Tehran's full support and its readiness for sharing experience with Iraqis for reconstruction and development of their homeland.
During his two-day visit to Iraq, the Iranian minister is accompanied by a number of MPs including representatives from Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission.
The issue of exchange of pilgrims visiting the two countries' holy cities and sites will be another topic to be discussed in Mottaki's meetings with the Iraqi officials.
He said that he will also discuss with Iraqi officials Tehran-Baghdad cooperation in the fields of transportation, energy and trade as well as inauguration of Iran's consulate in the Iraqi city of Basra.
According to the minister, the two sides would also make necessary arrangements for holding a meeting by Iraqi neighboring states in Tehran in the future.
Mottaki is scheduled to hold separate meetings with senior Iraqi officials including President Jalal Talabani, prime minister Nuri al-Maleki and the country's parliamentarians.
On Saturday, he will visit the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala.
