Iraqi, Iranian nations share common interests, concern: FM

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here Saturday evening said that Iran and Iraq were two nations with common interests and concerns.
His comments were made to Iraqi Islamic Party head Mohsen Abdul-Hamid on the sidelines of the Third International Conference on Qods and Support for the Rights of the Palestinian People which kicked off here Friday afternoon.
Referring to the critical situation in occupied Iraq, Mottaki said the country faced two major problems at present -- the lack of security and continued occupation.
The Islamic Republic of Iran believes establishment of security in Iraq is the responsibility of the Iraqi nation, he added.
As to the continuing occupation of Iraq by foreign forces, he called for a date to be fixed for the departure of these forces.
On efforts to form a government of national unity in Iraq, the Iranian foreign minister stressed that all Iraqi groups and sects including Kurds, Shiites, and Sunnis should be represented in the establishment of a popular government for that country.
A new Iraqi government that will be established at an appropriate time will be to the benefit of both the Iraqi people and government, he added.
He reiterated Iran's readiness to help the people form the government of their choice.
For his part, Abdul-Hamid expressed appreciation for Iran's hosting of the ongoing international conference on Palestine and congratulated the Iranian nation for the success it achieved recently in the nuclear field.
By entering the elitist club of nuclear states, Iran shows it is is a power to reckon with, he said.
As to Iran's role in solving Iraqi problems, he said the Iraqi nation expects the Islamic Republic of Iran to help solve their problems.
