Iran in no hurry to set date for talks with US: Asefi

Tehran, April 9, IRNA
Iran-US-Asefi
Iran on Sunday said it is in no haste to determine the date of talks with the United States on Iraq.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi made the remark while addressing domestic and foreign reporters at his first weekly press conference in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2006).
"No date has been fixed for Iran-US talks yet," Asefi said.
"Talks with the US in this respect need planning and so far no arrangements have been made," he said.
Asefi said that once all issues in this respect become definite, they will be announced transparently.
Referring to repeated calls by US officials on holding talks with Tehran, he said, "Considering US record, we had given negative response to all these calls until Iraqi officials raised the issue.
"Despite pessimism and precautions, Iran positively
responded to the call in order to discuss withdrawal of occupiers from Iraq and improvement of the US conduct in that country." Asked if the talks had been postponed to after the
establishment of the new Iraqi government, Asefi stated, "No date had been set for the talks to be postponed to after the
establishment of the Iraqi government."
Iran has announced that talks with the US has nothing to do with interference in establishment of government in Iraq and that this case is related to the Iraqi nation, said the spokesman.
