Iraqi cabinet discusses upcoming Iran-US talks

The Iraqi cabinet, in a meeting Thursday, discussed an upcoming dialogue between Iranian and US officials on Iraq, Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari was quoted as saying here Friday evening.
The Iraqi TV channel Al-Sharqia, monitored in this western provincial city, quoted al-Jaafari as saying members of the Iraqi interim government also talked about the level of the talks, composition of the Iranian and US negotiating teams as well as the the date.
The TV channel had earlier quoted an official of the Iraqi National Alliance as saying talks could be held as early as April 14.
However, there have been varying reports on the date of the talks.
Iraqi officials, who are also expected to attend the upcoming talks, say a date has not been fixed.
Some Iraqi sources have said it could be held next week, but US Ambassador to Iraq Zalmy Khalilzad has said the talks would commence only after a new Iraqi government has been formed.
Sources are agreed the talks would focus on resolving the pressing problems of the war-torn country.
