The US ambassador to Iraq Zalmy Khalilzad repeated Saturday his requests for dialogue with Iranian officials, notably over the Iraqi developments.

In an interview with Television Network 'al-sharqieh' monitored in Ilam province, and replying to a question on the likelihood of a link between Iran's nuclear dossier and the security situation in Iraq, Khalilzad said "Iraq is not the place for settling our grievances with Iran."
"I have previously called to Iranian officials to start a dialogue with us over the Iraqi situation and I am reiterating such a invitation to alleviate the concerns."
Thousands have died as a result of the US invasion of Iraq three years ago and the country has turned into a hotbed of terrorism.

Ministry of Defense in a bulletin here in January refuted claims by the London-based Arabic language daily Al-Hayat assertion that the Advisor to Iraqi Defense Minister General Yousef Qanem al-Amareh in his trip in December to Tehran submitted a message from US ambassador to Iraq Zalmy Khalilzad to Iranian officials.

The defense ministry said that the meeting between the Iranian and Iraqi defense officials explored ways of clearing mines planted during the imposed war against Iran.

It added that an agreement pertaining to the issue has been signed between the two nations.
