• U.S., Iraqi Troops Step Up Patrols, Defuse Weapons Caches AFPS 25 Feb 2006 -- U.S. and Iraqi troops have stepped up their patrols in Iraq's Baghdad and Babil provinces, and thanks to assistance from ordinary Iraqis, they've found and defused numerous roadside bombs, mine fields, and weapons caches, U.S. military officials in Iraq reported.

• UN's top Iraq envoy decries destruction of shrines, urges national unity UN News Centre 25 Feb 2006 -- In a strongly worded statement aimed at quelling violence in Iraq, the senior United Nations envoy to that country today decried recent sectarian attacks and urged a united front against those who are instigating them.

• Iraqi Government Extends Baghdad Car Ban RFE/RL 25 Feb 2006 -- The Iraqi government today announced an extension of its ban on car travel in Baghdad in an effort to contain the sectarian violence that has convulsed the country since the bombing of a Shi'ite shrine in Samarra on 22 February.
