Iraqi defense advisor meets defense minister

Advisor and special envoy of Iraqi defense minister Lieutenant General Youssef Vadi Al-Emara and Iranian Minister of Defense General Mostafa Mohammad Najar here Sunday conferred on matters of mutual interest.

A report released by the Publicity Department of the Ministry of Defense said that General al-Emara, heading an Iraqi delegation, is here to discuss joint mine sweeping operations.

At the meeting, Najar pointed to recent developments in Iraq and hoped that the next parliamentary election will be held smoothly.

He expressed hope that the Iraqi people will soon take full control of the current affairs and that the grounds will be paved for withdrawal of the foreign troops.

For his part, the Iraqi official referred to the former agreements reached between the defense ministers of the two countries and said that Iraq is prepared to fully implement the signed documents.

The Iraqi official called for the speedy implementation of the relevant agreements, Iran's participation in the reconstruction of his country and exchange of visits between Iranian and Iraqi defense delegations.

He called on Iran to render educational aid to Iraq and assist Iraqis to restore their military and defensive equipment required for establishment of a new army.
