Top Iraqi security official: Iran plays no role in Iraq's internal affairs

Iraq's National Security Advisor Mowafaq al-Rubai said here Tuesday that there is no evidence to prove that the Islamic Republic of Iran engaged in sending arms to Iraq or interfere in the country's domestic affairs.
Speaking to IRNA upon arrival in Tehran, he replied to questions posed by reporters at Mehrabad International airport and said Iran and Iraq are two independent countries and 'our strategy is based on respect as well as observing sovereignty of other countries'.
Highlighting the goals of his visit to Iran, he said the Iraqi delegation will coordinate the establishment of security between the two countries and said that Iran and Iraq, as two neighbors and brotherly countries, play significant role in restoration of security in the region.
Lauding the Iranian government and nation for the support as well as assistance for the restoration of democracy, freedom and formation of Iraqi government, he said, "We never forget Iran's support and the country's assistance in the restoration of democracy and freedom in Iraq."
He said after his meeting with the Iranian officials, he will reply to all question posed by reporters.
Iraq's National Security Advisor Mowafaq al-Rubai, heading a political delegation, arrived in Tehran Tuesday for a three-day official visit.
Al-Rubai, upon his arrival in Tehran, was welcomed by the executive deputy and security deputy of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ghafour and Ja'fari, respectively.
Al-Rubai, during his three-day stay in the country, is scheduled to hold talks with SNSC Secretary Ali Larijani, Interior Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi and Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki.
He is accompanied on the visit by Iraqi Minister of State for National Security Abd al-Karim al-Anzi and his deputy.
Iraq's top security official and his delegation will meet top Iranian officials to discuss bilateral relations, political and security issues and tightening of border control.
