Iran-Asefi-Straw
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi here Thursday rejected recent statements made by British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw as 'unfounded', warning that no country would benefit from confrontation with Iran.
Asefi stressed, "The British government criticizes others without producing any proofs to cover its failure and scandal caused by two of its soldiers arrested in southern Iraq," the Press and Information Department at the Foreign Ministry reported.
According to a report, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, in a TV program, accused Iran on Wednesday of implicating in supplying explosives and training insurgents in Iraq.
The government of Britain is responsible for crisis in Iraq and has been involved in recent unrest in southern Iran and it has been warned not to proceed with its meddling in Iran's internal affairs, Asefi noted.
"Britain, instead of repeating awkward accusations, had better think of a plan to withdraw its troops from Iraq," he concluded.
Last month, British forces carried out a raid on an Iraqi police station to free two undercover British soldiers arrested in the southern city of Basra, angering local officials and residents.
