Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi here Tuesday praised the codification of Iraqi constitution as "very valuable" and expressed contentedness with this development.

According to reports, a draft constitution was submitted to the National Assembly before midnight Monday. The speaker of Iraq's National Assembly announced the deadline had been met.

However, the final vote on it was put off for three days.

"Codification of the Iraqi constitution is a valuable and very important step in order to preserve the independence and territorial integrity, to help stabilize security and establish peace, and consolidate the indisputable right of the Iraqi nation to determine their own fate," Asefi said.

Referring to the trend of talks among Iraqi officials to draw up the constitution, the spokesman expressed hope the process would be completed in the near future and further steps would be taken to settle the remaining issues.
