Tehran, Aug 10, IRNA
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi here Wednesday refuted the remarks of US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and called upon US administration to admit the consequences of its blunders in Iraq and avoid raising baseless charges against others.
In his remarks, Rumsfeld claimed that weapons are being transferred to Iraq from Iran.
According to a report released by the Foreign Ministry Media Department, Asefi added that by resorting to contradictory claims Rumsfeld attempts to divert the attention from the wrong performance of the US government.
"On account of their terrible blunders in Iraq, the US officials are pressurized by the world and regional public opinion, particularly that of Iraqi Muslim people. In order to justify their failure, they have taken the option of resorting to a visionary enemy," he added.
Meanwhile, Asefi underlined that Iran will continue its fundamental policy towards multifaceted support of the Iraqi people and government to enable them gain sovereignty over their political destiny and make progress in economic and political fields.
"By disseminating false news and political propaganda the US administration cannot undermine the amicable relations between the two countries," concluded Asefi.
