Polish Premier Visits Iraq

26 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Polish Prime Minister Marek Belka today said that Poland is determined to keep its troops in Iraq.

Belka made his remarks in Baghdad after talks with his Iraqi counterpart, Ibrahim al-Ja'fari.

Belka said Poland might change its military involvement in Iraq from a stabilization mission to a training mission.

Al-Ja'fari said Iraq's government wants Poland to keep its troops in Iraq.

Poland has the third-largest contingent of foreign troops in the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq, and also commands a multinational force of some 4,000 troops.
