IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Istanbul, July 19, IRNA
Iran-Iraq-Mousavi Lari
Iranian Minister of the Interior Abdolvahed Mousavi Lari on Tuesday condemned terrorist operations in Iraq and said that Iran supports Iraqi national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Addressing the second meeting of Interior Ministers of Iraqi Neighboring States, Mousavi Lari said that Iran calls for
non-interference in internal affairs of Iraq, supports political process in transition of Iraq to a stable country and Iraqi transitional government.

He said that Iran also abides by Iran-Iraq Border Treaty for complete surveillance of the entry points along borders to stop penetration of terrorists to both sides.

He recommended that the second meeting of the interior ministers of Iraqi neighboring states would call for implementation of the accord reached in the first meeting in Tehran last November.

He hoped that practical ways would be adopted to help empower Iraqi transitional government to go ahead with political process and reconstruction of Iraq in parallel with bolstering security forces to undertake national security independently.

Mousavi Lari offered condolence to bereaved families of terrorist attacks in London, Iraq and other parts of the world and said that regional states are strong enough to proceed with international campaign against terrorism.

"The regional countries do not need foreign troops to go ahead with international campaign against terrorism," he said.

Mousavi Lari condemned Israeli state terrorism against Palestinians and said that double standard in international campaign against terrorism and unilateral action in absence of collective resolve to deal with the ominous phenomenon of terrorism would instead encourage terrorists.

Iranian minister of the interior called for trial of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and said that Baghdad government should take practical steps to dismantle the terrorist groups residing in Iraq since Saddam Hussein rule.

He gave a proposal on setting up a secretariat for following up implementation of decisions of the interior ministers of Iraqi neighbors.

The second meeting of interior ministers of Iraqi neighbors was held in Istanbul on July 18-19.

The meeting ended on Tuesday with issuing a 20-point statement through which Iraqi neighbors condemned terrorism in Iraq and supported political process to be administered by Iraqi transitional government.

They renewed support for independence, national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq and condemned assassination of Egyptian and Iranian diplomats in Iraq and terrorist actions against Baghdad-based diplomatic corps.

The third meeting of interior ministers of Iraqi neighbors will be held in Saudi Arabia.
