Iran-Iraq-Meet
Iran and Iraq here Monday stressed expansion of all-out relations, particularly in the areas of politics and security.
Iran's Interior Minister Abdolvahed Mousavi Lari held a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Bayan Baqir Jabr Sulagh al-Zubaydi on the sidelines of the second meeting of interior ministers of Iraqi neighboring states.
Lari expressed satisfaction over expansion of relations between Tehran and Baghdad and voiced Iran's support for stability and security in Iraq.
"This is a historical opportunity that the Iraqi nation will rule over their own destiny," he said.
He added the second meeting of interior ministers of Iraqi neighboring states paves the way for establishment of regional security and helps promote cooperation among regional states so that they will bring their stands closer to each other.
The Iranian minister stressed that regional cooperation would play a key role in fighting and preventing terrorism.
Al-Zubaydi, for his part, said trial of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein in the earliest possible time would be very effective in restoration of peace and stability to Iraq.
Terming the last May visit to Iraq by Iran's Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi as fruitful, he noted that current visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari to Iran would further consolidate Tehran-Baghdad relations.
The Iraqi minister appreciated Iran's assistance to his country and hoped such move would continue in the future.
Iran's interior minister arrived here on Monday to attend the 2nd meeting of interior ministers of Iraqi neighboring states.
He met his Turkish counterpart Abdulkadir Aksu Monday evening and discussed avenues for bolstering relations between the two countries in social and security areas.
The first meeting of Iraqi neighboring states' interior ministers was held in Tehran later November 2004.
